Not a Sica-moose, this swimmer popped up in Blind Bay on a morning dip in Shuswap Lake. <\/p>\n
On Thursday morning, July 17, Blind Bay resident Jane O'Connor caught a rare sighting of a moose swimming towards Sorrento.<\/p>\n
"We spotted her out in the water," she said. "It was quite the sight."<\/p>\n
It was an originally misidentified sight as a friend who was visiting asked what was out in the water, thinking it was a bird because it's twitching ears at first looked like flapping wings. After taking a closer look, O'Connor realized what they were actually watching, and grabbed her phone to take some videos. <\/p>\n
"I've seen moose up pretty close in Alberta," she said. "But never here, and never in the water."<\/p>\n
Wanting to share the rare sight, O'Connor went to the neighbour's place to get their kids out to see the moose just out for a casual swim.<\/p>\n
"Everybody was just amazed," she said. <\/p>\n
O'Connor posted the cute video to the Shuswap Everything Friendly Goes page on Facebook, and quickly got over 6,000 views and a number of amazed, appreciative and cute comments. <\/p>\n
Heather Garofano joked that "he knows it's a no wake zone," while Byr Son estimated it had "1.35 horsepower."<\/p>\n
While the moose left no wake, it was still motoring along quickly, leaving O'Connor grateful to have witnessed its morning aquafit session. <\/p>\n
