Next month, it's going to feel like the first time for the École Kelowna Secondary School (KSS) choir. <\/p>\n
The choir is getting the chance to be jukebox heroes as they won a contest to perform with famous British-American band Foreigner at its Nov. 7 concert at Prospera Place, for them, a long, long way from home.<\/p>\n
The band, which will reach 50 years in existence next year, launched the contest in collaboration with Prospera Place and K96.3 Classic Rock. The choir will be performing Foreigner's hit I Want to Know What Love Is with the band.<\/p>\n
“When I saw the ad, it was just like, obviously a no-brainer that I would enter my students into this competition because they need this experience,” said KSS teacher Shiela French. “I know it will change their lives. And I know that they’re going to love it… absolutely everybody should be in a choir.”<\/p>\n
The choir was surprised on Tuesday, Oct. 7, with the news that they won the contest. On top of winning the opportunity, Foreigner donated $500 to the choir.<\/p>\n
For one KSS student, the opportunity got him hot-blooded, calling it a dream come true.<\/p>\n
“I’m really excited,” Thomas Abresch said. “I think my dad’s super pumped, this is definitely his jam, and it’s my jam too. I really love 80s music, and I really love Foreigner. I joined the choir in grade 10, and it immediately just felt super comfortable. I love singing. The program here is so fantastic, and the KSS choir is just a great community, great people.”<\/p>\n
The opportunity is something the choir will remember until the end of time.<\/p>\n
