{"id":80197,"date":"2021-06-29T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-06-29T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/interior-news.com\/2021\/06\/29\/indigenous-name-chosen-for-largest-sturgeon-captured-by-vanderhoof-hatchery-2\/"},"modified":"2021-06-29T01:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-06-29T01:00:00","slug":"indigenous-name-chosen-for-largest-sturgeon-captured-by-vanderhoof-hatchery-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/interior-news.com\/2021\/06\/29\/indigenous-name-chosen-for-largest-sturgeon-captured-by-vanderhoof-hatchery-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Indigenous name chosen for largest sturgeon captured by Vanderhoof hatchery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A white sturgeon believed to be the largest captured in recent history from the Nechako River now has a name.<\/p>\n<p>The Nechako White Sturgeon Conservation Centre in Vanderhoof recently announced the name they selected for the female weighing 335.9 pounds &#8211; Ts&rsquo;eketi.<\/p>\n<p>The name has been derived from the Nadleh-Stella Whut&rsquo;enne dialect meaning a very respected female elder.<\/p>\n<p>Ts&rsquo;eketi is believed to be around 100 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Walsh submitted it in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcoasttraveller.com\/want-to-name-the-largest-sturgeon-ever-caught-by-this-bc-hatchery-here-is-your-chance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook naming contest<\/a> launched last month, generating more than 200 comments.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am so honoured,&rdquo; Walsh wrote on Facebook after learning her suggested name was chosen.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;What a resilient lady she is in surviving all the dam-related and habitat-related issues.
