Paddles up!
There is still some time to put adventure into the summertime months of 2025 and enjoy our gorgeous Tyhee Lake.
After having a year’s hiatus, Tyhee Lake Dragons, the dragon-boating team needs you, and they invite you to bring a friend..
Monday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m all you need for a spot with this team is a PFD that fits you well and your desire to have some fun and learn a new skill.
Tyhee Lake Dragons have the boat (belonging to the Smithers Friendship Centre), the paddles, and the scenery. If you are between the ages of 16 and 80-plus join the fun and take to the water until the beginning of October. For more information give Jan Grieder a call at 250-847-4773.
Fair Time!
The theme this year for the BVX fall fair is ‘Make a Bee-Line to the Fair."
For the 106th year, our fair will be a hive of activity. It can get a little tricky, especially for newcomers or out-of-towners. If you love to be helpful and part of the action, become a volunteer at the Information Booth.
I volunteered last year, to fill a gap, and it was one of my best times. It feels good to give a helping hand, to guide someone to first aid or show them where they can fill their water cup, find an ATM or even take them to the bathrooms. My favourite: Show them where to find ice cream.
The little things in life can give us the most pleasure.
Volunteers get free admission for 4-hours work and can split that time in two if needed. We can learn the job before it starts. Come a little early, take a walk around and get a refresher on the zones.
Sell some fall fair t-shirts and cups. Not quite the queen bee activity, but the fair needs workers.
Judie Wallace Meyers is the coordinator and said to please give her a call at 778-640-1190.
Back to Tyhee Lake
Youth Guitar Camp was a huge success. They had 33 students and my daughter Jenny said it was fantastic. It is so well-run by co-ordinator Fruin Pow.
Adult and Youth Guitar camps are put on each year by the Bulkley Valley Folk Music Society and fill up fast. If you are thinking about 2026, watch for their opening registration dates.
