To the Editor, I would like to acknowledge a few individuals and organizations who are contributing greatly to the Telkwa Community Garden. This garden was developed in Telkwa in 2014, with a lot of assistance from the Village of Telkwa. This summer the Village of Telkwa assisted by cutting the grass outside the garden, and every year the village provides wood chips that are used to help with weed control. Heather Sosnowski is a parent volunteer who often brings students from Telkwa Elementary School to the garden not only to work on their garden beds, but also to volunteer to build garden beds, help with weed control and complete other gardening projects. Telkwa Elementary also provided beautification by decorating the garden fences with an array of multi-coloured salmon, as part of a Salmon Project. Two weeks ago, Philippa Beck from Full Circle Yoga, brought a contingent of six students learning yoga instruction, to provide two hours of volunteer work at the garden. The Telkwa Community Garden is a beautiful space, shared by 6-8 community members, and young gardeners from the Ark Daycare and Telkwa Elementary Students. It takes many hands to keep it growing and beautiful. Thank you, Alan Doll – Telkwa Community Garden Coordinator |
