The Bulkley Valley’s own Jenny Lester will be featured on Carpe Diem Arts’ “Daily Antidote of Song” on Oct. 31.
Lester has been active in music, particularly Bluegrass, since the 1980s when her family founded the Driftwood Canyon Family Band. Jenny was eight and played the fiddle.
People in the Bulkley Valley will likely also remember Hungry Hill, a band that was a mainstay in the local music scene for years.
Jenny has performed all over the planet and continues to play live, as well as teach, and provide myriad online resources for musicians.
She is very much looking forward to leading the Daily Antidote session on Oct. 31 at 9 a.m. Pacific Time.
“It’s hard to explain how honoured I am to be part of this,” she said in a Facebook post.
Carpe Diem Arts is a non-profit organization whose mission is “to inspire creative self-expression that empowers individuals, strengthens communities, and builds better futures, while also supporting the livelihoods of master teaching and performing artists who reflect the diversity of the communities we serve,” according to their website.
The organization established the Daily Antidote of Song as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. It is a live, virtual singalong presented on Zoom with the tagline: “Changing the world one song at a time.”
Each day at noon (Eastern Time), a song leader (host) presents a roughly 15 to 30-minute song session.
Participants can (and do) tune in on Zoom from all around the world and singalong with the host.
People can also watch the sessions at any time after the original presentation on YouTube.
