Burns Lake RCMP and partners raided three properties in Burns Lake Oct. 30 resulting in the arrest of eight individuals and the seizure of suspected illicit drugs, firearms and cash.

“Yesterday, Burns Lake RCMP have successfully removed a significant amount of illicit drugs from circulation in a coordinated operation aimed at disrupting the local trafficking networks,” said Sergeant Anthony Brooks, Operations NCO for the Burns Lake RCMP.

“The operation highlights the continued effort and commitment at protecting our communities, reducing harm to individuals, and reinforcing the efforts against this type of illegal drug activity.”

The operation was the culmination of a lengthy drug trafficking investigation which yielded search warrants. North and Southeast District Emergency Response Teams, RCMP Police Dog Services, and other support units participated in executing the warrants.

Due to the perceived risk to officer safety, the emergency response teams deployed distraction devices during entry into the homes to secure the occupants safely. In total, eight individuals were arrested without incident or injury.

During the course of the search, police seized over three kilograms of suspected illicit drugs, multiple firearms, and a significant quantity of cash along with other items consistent with drug trafficking.

No charges have been laid as the investigation is ongoing, police said.
