UPDATE: Hwy. 1 reopens after crash between Chilliwack and Hope

Update (Thursday, 8:30 a.m.): A crash on Highway 1 between Chilliwack and Hope on Thursday (Oct. 30) sent four people to hospital.

BC Emergency Health Services said six ambulances, one air ambulance and a supervisor responded to the crash near the village of Popkum at 6:50 p.m.

“Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment and transported four patients to hospital,” BCEHS said in a statement.

According to Drive BC, the crash was cleared at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Friday (Oct. 31).

Update:

Both lanes of the highway were closed by 8:30 p.m.

Drive BC reports that the closure extends further than the story below states. The highway is now closed eastbound at the Highway 9 exit, and westbound in Hope.

Multiple vehicles are involved in the crash.

Original story:

A multiple-vehicle crash closed Highway 1 between Chilliwack and Hope on Thursday evening (Oct. 30), around 7:30 p.m.

The crash appeared to be in the westbound lanes according to social media posts and Google traffic mapping.

The crash caused a closure from Peters Road to Herrling Island. Traffic in the eastbound lanes was heavily backed up between the same two exits.

Witnesses on scene were reporting that an air ambulance had landed and several people were being attended to by paramedics.
