Abbotsford assault sends inmate to hospital

An Abbotsford inmate was rushed off to the hospital on Saturday, Oct. 25, after being assaulted by multiple people at the Pacific Institution’s Regional Treatment Centre.

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) revealed that the inmate was treated for their injuries and has since been returned to the Abbotsford institution.

“The Abbotsford Police Department and the institution are presently investigating the incident,” said CSC.

This inmate was reportedly the only person injured during the incident, with the assailants already identified and given corrective action.

This is the second assault of an inmate to take place in Abbotsford this month, with the Matsqui Institution experiencing a similar incident on Oct. 12.

“The safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system,” said CSC.
