The Shuswap SPCA is looking for help in rounding up any hedgehogs that might still be wandering near Little Mountain.
The local branch of the BC SPCA shared this request on Monday, Sept. 15, after a hoglet was brought in.
In a social media post, the SPCA said the young hedgehog was found near the tennis courts on Okanagan – the same area where a mother hedgehog and hoglet were found the week prior.
"This raises some concerns that there may be more hedgehogs still out there," said the SPCA. "While our staff are actively sweeping the area, we are unable to access private properties. That’s where we could use your help."
If you live in the area where the hedgehogs were found, the SPCA asked that you keep an "extra eye out in your yards, gardens, and along trails." If you spot a hedgehog, the SPCA asked that you call right away "so we can ensure its safety."
The SPCA also wants to know who the hedgehogs belong to, as "it's possible these are escaped pets."
"So let’s keep an open mind," said the SPCA. "Our goal is simply to make sure these animals are safe and cared for."
